Each Friday at 9am we flashback to the 1980's on the Mix 103.9FM.  This week we feature Bruce Hornsby and the Range.  Born in Virginia in 1954, Bruce moved to Los Angeles in 1980 and landed a cool gig in 1983 as Sheena Easton's tour band's backing pianist.

In 1984, The Range was formed and singer, pianist, and songwriter Hornsby took the lead role.  Their music is best described as pop music with jazz influences.  The band won a Grammy for "Best New Artist"  in 1986

After the death of Brent Mydland, Hornsby occasionally toured with the Grateful Dead.
