For summer recreation enthusiasts, there is no shortage of great New York State parks nearby.  My family and I have been to these parks often and enjoy each one for different reasons, sometimes just for a change of scenery.

Betty and Wilbur Davis State Park
This park is located outside of Schenevus and it's very scenic.  Since it's heavily forested, it has really nice trails to walk and two ponds.  There is no swimming but it does offer wonderful walking trails and picnicking opportunities.

Gilbert Lake State Park
Gilbert Lake is a staple for many Oneonta families because it has great trails but also is wonderful for swimming.  Plus, they just put in a new playground close to the beach!

Glimmerglass State Park
Glimmerglass is located on beautiful Otsego Lake in Cooperstown and talk about a view!  It's great if you're looking for a beach day and has wonderful cabins to rent for some time away.

Oquaga Creek State Park
This out-of-the-way park is located outside of Bainbridge and I've always enjoyed it for it's big beautiful beach and camping.

Robert V. Riddell State Park
This park is great for hikes of various lengths and I really enjoy taking my dog for walks here.  It's very simple and mostly trail based with a few scenic picnicking spots along the creek.
