The Syracuse Orange men's basketball secured their first victory of the 2020-2021 regular season with a 85-84 victory over Bryant. Despite the victory, Capital Region fans who root for the Orange could argue that this game was the worst game played in the illustrious career of former Glens Falls stand out Joseph Girard III. Girard III finished game one going 2-14 from the field including 2-9 from three point range along with three turnovers. After finishing his scholastic career as a top ten scorer of all time, a six point performance is far from a normal JG3 performance. Syracuse head coach Jim Boeheim shared the same feelings during his post game press conference about Girard III's performance.

Girard III's three pointer at the end of the game did prove to be a clutch field goal in securing the win for the Orange. The Orange still have plenty of games awaiting them over the course of the next few months. Plus the local media in Syracuse still seems to be in JG3's corner. The Syracuse NBC affiliate ran this piece before tip off of Friday's game titled "As a new season gets underway, the legend of Joe Girard III grows" You can read the full story here.

There was a second connnection to the Capital Region in Syracuse's first game of the season. Former Siena basketball player Luke Sutherland is a member of the Bryant basketball program but did not play in the opening contest.

The Orange are scheduled to return to regular season action on Thursday December 3rd against the MAAC's Niagara Purple Eagles. Tipoff is scheduled for 7pm inside the Carrier Dome.
