October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month.  Locally, Opportunities For Otsego, at 3 West Broadway in Oneonta, New York, provides a Violence Intervention Program to help support victims of domestic violence, sexual assault, and violent crimes.  The VIP also offers counseling to individuals and groups, education to schools and communities, safe housing, referrals, and a 24 hour hotline which is 607-432-4855.

This month, The VIP is asking business, organizations, and community members to participate in "Shine The Light" on Domestic Violence.  Shine a purple light to to show your support of victims and to raise awareness.  Purple bulbs are available at Opportunities For Otsego.  Megan Stanley and Shelby from Opportunities For Otsego tell us more about the Violence Intervention Program:

Everyone is encouraged to wear purple on October 16, 2013 to raise awareness and show support.
