Billy Idol, born William Broad, started his musical career as lead singer in a punk rock group called Generation X from 1977 to 1981 before breaking out as a solo artist.  Idol has several hits to his credit, including "White Wedding" in 1983, "Eyes Without a Face" in 1984, and "To Be A Lover" in 1986.  But it wasn't until this day, November 21,1987, that he scored his first U.S. number hit with, "Mony Mony".
