"Mississippi in the middle of a dry spell, Jimmy Rogers on the Victrola up high."  Lyrics that are heard at karaoke bars across the country, "Black Velvet" by Canadian singer, Alannah Myles.  On this day, March 24, in 1990, Myles started her two week run at number one on the U.S. singles chart with this hit.  She isn't really a one hit wonder.  Myles had a second charting single with "Love Is" in June that same year.  The single peaked at number 36 on the Billboard chart.
