The presents are opened and the tree is loosing all of it's needles.  It is time to take down the Christmas tree, but what are you going to do with it?  Recycle and reuse.  It is a great way to give the tree more purpose.  Here are some ideas for your Christmas tree after Christmas besides of curbside pick-up:

  1. Bird Feeder.  Put the tree in your backyard and use it as a bird feeder and bird sanctuary.  Strung popcorn will attract the birds and they will find it to be a nice shelter.  In the Spring, the branches will become brittle and easy to break into pieces for mulch or burning.
  2. Snow Barrier.  You can place the tree outside in an area to help block snowdrifts.  Much like a snow fence would do.  You can also use it to mark an area you don't want plowed.
  3. Mulch.  The tree can be chipped and used for mulch around your house.  The mulch is a great, renewable way to mark hiking paths, garden paths, and walkways.
  4. Garden Cover.  You can use the tree to protect newly planted shrubs and bushes or more fragile plants.  It will help keep the heavy snow off the of plant.

Don't forget to check to make sure all ornaments, hooks, and decorations are removed.  Reusing your tree can be easy to do and the enjoyment can go beyond the holiday.  Here are some ideas:
