The 16th Annual Otsego County Household Hazardous Waste Days are coming in September.  The first of two will be September 13, 2013 at the Unadilla Town Barn from 8am to 11am, then on September 14, 2013 at the Meadows Office Complex in Cooperstown from 8am to 2pm.  Registration is encouraged and runs August 27 to September 10, 2013. Restrictions apply.

The following list is provided by Otsego County Solid Waste Department, explaining what types of wastes will be accepted (not exclusive):

--pesticides, herbicides, insecticides --paints, paint thinners, stains and varnishes
--solvents, cleaners and degreasers --all batteries (auto, household)
--photographic and pool chemicals --driveway sealers
--polishes and floor care products --adhesives and glues
--acids and caustics --unbroken florescent bulbs
--empty propane tanks (<40 lbs.) --lubricants (not including motor oil)
--antifreeze, brake fluids, old fuels --charcoal lighters
--poisons and fertilizers --pharmaceuticals (see below)

The following WILL NOT be accepted:

--medical wastes (biohazard, red bag or infectious) --smoke detectors
--pyrophoric material (air ignited) --radioactive waste
--explosives or ammunition --syringes
--shock sensitive (pyric acid, crystalized ethers) --HOME ELECTRONICS
--motor oil (retailers will accept)
