Heat is one of the leading weather related killers in the United States, resulting in hundreds of fatalities each year.

With high temperatures in store for the rest of the week, the Federal Alliance for Safe Homes, or FLASH, has some tips to avoid the risk of illness from the hot and humid weather.

  • Plan strenuous activity for morning hours
  • Stay indoors as much as possible
  • Drink plenty of water
  • Wear light-colored clothing
  • Never leave pets or children in the car even with the windows down
  • Avoid salt tablets unless approved by a physician.
