New York State’s Attorney General has a back to school warning for coaches and players.

Attorney General Eric Schneiderman wants school officials to remember to bench those players who show symptoms of a mild traumatic brain injury.

A new law put in place last year requires an athlete who may have had a head injury to stay off the field for at least 24 hours and have a note from the doctor before they can play again.

Concussions are usually temporary and can cause headaches as well as problems with balance and memory.

Health officials have been stressing the need for coaches and players to take hits to the head more seriously after a few school-age athletes have had serious injuries or died from brain trauma.
