Congressman Anthony Brindisi (NY-22) today helped pass a Fiscal Year 2020 funding bill (H.R. 2740), which included provisions he championed to invest in Upstate New York priorities and bring federal dollars to Binghamton University.

“Upstate New Yorkers sent me to Congress to deliver results, and that’s exactly what we did today,” Brindisi said. “Binghamton University is an innovation leader, and I’m committed to ensuring they have the resources they need to continue their groundbreaking work. I was proud to champion these provisions to invest in our education system and bring more good-paying jobs to our district.”

Brindisi secured additional resources for Department of Defense programs which fund NextFlex, America’s Flexible Hybrid Electronics Manufacturing Innovation Institute. The $10 million increase for National Manufacturing Innovation Institutes will help fund NextFlex Nodes like Binghamton University’s. The Binghamton-led NY Node has brought millions of dollars in economic activity to the area.

"Since Congressman Brindisi came into office, he has taken an active interest in our campus and our research priorities," said Binghamton University President Harvey Stenger. "We are thrilled that he has picked up the mantle and is working to continue to provide much needed federal funding so this type of flexible hybrid electronics research and development can continue both here in New York and across the nation."

The bill now proceeds to the Senate for consideration.
