New York State will raise the minimum wage for State University workers to 15 dollars. The increase at the State University of New York system will affect some 28,000 employees when fully phased in during 2021. The state's base minimum wage rose from $8.75 to $9 on Thursday.

A new study says raising New York state's minimum wage to $15 an hour would increase pay for millions of workers by a total of $15 billion and have the greatest impact on women and minorities in the workforce. The report from the union-backed Economic Policy Institute says a $15 minimum would directly benefit 2.4 million workers. Of those, three-quarters are over age 25 and slightly more than half are women or minorities.
