Must Watch Netflix Series
by Lauren Pennino
Netflix is a common guilty pleasure shared by many. The addiction to television is continuing to grow, and Netflix is the one of the main causes for this addiction. There are hundreds of shows available containing almost every season for every show. This instant and easy availability is what draws more and more people in to use Netflix.
The wide variety of shows to choose from can become overwhelming when you are trying to figure out the next show you want to start. Luckily, Netflix has all of their shows and movies separated by category to help narrow down your search. I am guilty of being an avid Netflix user, and have watched more than a handful of their original series religiously. If you are looking to start a new series, these three Netflix Originals are must watch options.
The first series is called Bloodline. This Netflix original is a thriller-drama, based on a family that owns a beachside hotel in the Florida Keys. The oldest son of the family, known to be a troublemaker or the outcast of the family, returns home for his parents wedding anniversary, quickly causing havoc for the whole family and everyone around them. He slowly brings out the family's dark secrets and eventually threatens to bring the entire family and their legacy due to his criminal activity. This is a great show if you are looking for a thrilling, on the edge of your seat feeling. Every episode got better and better and it had me constantly questioning what was going to happen next. There has only been one season of Bloodline and season two is estimated to premiere sometime mid 2016.
If you are looking for more of a light, comedy based show, I would recommend the series Orange Is the New Black. This series is revolved around the main character, Piper Chapman, who is sentenced to fifteen months in Litchfield Penitentiary, a minimum-security women’s federal prison. Piper is convicted of helping her former girlfriend, Alex Vause, transport a suitcase filled with drug money. In prison, Piper is reunited with her ex girlfriend Alex and they give their relationship another shot and deal with their fellow inmates. Throughout the series, it often shows flashbacks of each inmates past before entering prison and reveals their reasoning for being convicted. The show also demonstrates how corrupt the U.S prison system can be and how the abuse of female inmates is a constant issue among correctional officers.
Lastly, if you are interested in crime related shows, I would suggest you start Narcos. The main premise of this show is all about Colombia’s infamous violence and its ruthless drug cartel. The main character, Pablo Escobar, is the head of the drug cartel and is American DEAs number one priority to take down.
Whether you're in the mood for a good laugh, a jaw dropping thriller, or drug related violence, any of these Netflix originals will be the perfect fit for you. So the next chance you get to relax, sit back with your feet up, and let the binge watching begin!
