Emily the Magnificent Can Predict Your Ice Cream Order
I've worked in the ice cream serving industry for almost six years now. I've spent many a night and day handing cones, shakes and sundaes out the tiny window of Mac-A-Doodles Ice Cream in Stamford. From this job I have learned many valuable lessons; hard work, responsibility and customer service are all some of the skills I have attained. However, I have also learned that people are creatures of habit and age has a lot to do with what a person will order.
In this post, I am going to break down for you what age group orders what ice cream. Kids, teens, young adults, adults and the elderly all have their specific flavor preferences when it comes to order time.

Kids age 1-3
These little guys are just learning about what ice cream is. The smile they have when they first try a taste of ice cream is one of the most adorable things you'll ever see. This is what parents typically order for them:
An incredibly tiny soft vanilla ice cream, maybe rainbow sprinkles

Kids age 4-12
This is the age when kids are into bright colors, anything cookie themed and crazy names. Don't let them hear what size you order when you get to the window though. They're always telling moms and dads they want a "BIG!" one, but just end up not finishing it. Sometimes baby size is enough. Here's what they're getting:
- Cotton Candy
- Cookie Dough
- Cookies & Cream
- Blue Goo
- Mint Ting-A-Ling
- 3
Teens age 13-20 & Young adults age 20-34
These age groups are in their prime ice cream ordering stages. They still like the classics they remember as children but aren't afraid to try something new we have featured in the window. This age group is the hardest to predict but we do have some favorites that stick around.
- Raspberry Sorbet
- Twist with Rainbow Sprinkles
- Oreo Flurry
- 4
Adults age 35-55
At this point in life ice cream ordering takes a bit of a divide based on sex. Here's what middle aged women are ordering:
- Queen of Hearts: dark chocolate with raspberries
- Bittersweet Synphony: coffee with dark chocolate swirls
- Peanut Butter Cup: chocolate with peanut butter swirls
- Peanut Butter Chip Frozen Yogurt
- Raspberry Truffle Frozen Yogurt
Do we see a common denominator here? (chocolate). Middle aged men on the other hand:
- Vanilla
- Kahlua Almond Amaretto
- Hot Fudge Sundae
- Chocolate Shake
- Root Beer Float
- 5
Seniors age 55-105
By this time, people know what they like and what they don't. They've had many years of ice cream experience by now and get the same thing just about every time they come. These flavors are the easiest to predict. Here's what they're having:
- Maple Walnut
- Butter Pecan
- Pistachio Nut
- Wet Walnut Sundae
- Hard Vanilla
- Orange Sherbet
