Celebrate National Corn on the Cob Day [GALLERY]
According to National Today, today is National Corn on the Cob Day.
I love corn on the cob. I always have. In fact, when I was a kid, corn on the cob was my favorite summertime food. There's been days where I've actually just had corn on the cob as dinner. There's nothing better than getting nice, juicy sweet corn, covering it in butter and adding some salt.
The highlight of the New York State Fair, in my opinion, is the food unless they have some really good bands on the Chevy Court Stage. And my favorite food at the New York State Fair is the roasted corn.
Chris and I go to the New York State Fair on average, every other year. And every time we go, I always look to find the roasted corn stand. The State Fair, held at the end of August, is right at the height of the local corn season. When you order the corn, they pull a fresh ear off the roaster, shuck it, and dip it in a vat of butter, to the point where if you hold it straight up, the butter runs down your arm.
They have all different kinds of spices to add to the corn including Cajun seasoning, garlic powder, and of course Salt to name a few. I have to get at least one ear of corn every time we go to the fair. If we stay at the fair long enough, and I get hungry again before we leave, I will go back and get a second ear of corn, that's how much I love it.
A couple of times during the summer, I will go to the Farmer's Market at the Vestal Library, or one of the fruit and veggie stands on Old Vestal Road just to get some fresh local corn. To me, it's definitely one of the highlights of Summer.
Happy National Corn on the Cob Day.
