‘Batman vs. Superman’ Gets an Official Title: Enter the ‘Dawn of Justice’
For the past year or so, we've been calling 'Batman vs. Superman' 'Batman vs. Superman' only because we didn't have an official title. There were rumors of 'World's Finest' but nothing was ever confirmed as an official title for the film, but 'Batman vs. Superman' had a nice ring to it, so we went with that. Now the film has its title, though, and...well, we wish we could go back to just calling it 'Batman vs. Superman.'
The good news is that Warner Bros. and director Zack Snyder have kept the 'Batman vs. Superman' title for the most part (they oddly dropped the "s" from "vs"), but have introduced a disappointing subtitle to make the official title 'Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice.' Also, up above, you can see the brand new logo for the film, which is a distinct upgrade on the brief logo overlay Snyder showed off last summer at Comic-Con.
It's obviously meant to tease the 'Justice League' movie, but, ugh, it's pretty disappointing as titles go. What are they battling in court? Is there a superhero lawsuit we're not privy to? Or, maybe it's 'Batman 5 Superman' and that's actually a roman numeral. We're still not sure about the logic there.
Along with the news came this information via press release:
Filming is underway on Warner Bros. Pictures’ 'Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice,' the highly anticipated action adventure from director Zack Snyder, starring Henry Cavill in the role of Clark Kent/Superman, and Ben Affleck as BruceWayne/Batman.
'Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice' also stars Gal Gadot as Diana Prince/Wonder Woman, with Amy Adams, Laurence Fishburne and Diane Lane returning from 'Man of Steel,' Jesse Eisenberg as Lex Luthor, Jeremy Irons as Alfred, and Holly Hunter in a role newly created for the film.
So, there you have it. 'Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice' starts production this week in Michigan and opens in theaters on May 6, 2016. Let us know what you think of this new, official title below.
