100 in Oneonta Join Thousands Across USA in Women’s Rally

Hundreds of thousands of people marched for women's rights across the United States on Saturday, October 1.  Joining that group was a crowd of more than 100 who gathered in Muller Plaza in Oneonta in support of the cause.

The event featured speakers, live music and refreshments.

The organized nationwide march was in protest of the nation's newest and strictest abortion law which recently passed and is now law in the state of Texas.  This new law bans abortions after six weeks, a time frame when many women don't even know they are pregnant yet.  It also allows for bounties to be paid for identifying doctors and patients who do not honor the law.

Among the speakers were Oneonta Mayor Gary Herzig as well as Debra Marcus, CEO of Family Planning.  An informational table was set up dispensing pamphlets and more on the subject.  Among those in attendance included students from both of Oneonta's colleges.  Some of them gave personal testimonies to the crowd.
