I would love to be able to dedicate thirty minutes, three times a week to fitness but it is just not a reality.  I am a mom of two young, wonderful kids and spare time to take a class or turn the treadmill on comes once in a great while.  I am not making excuses, it is just how it is, so I do what I can when I can.  Like this past Saturday for instance...

The kids and I attended a birthday at Interskate 88.  Presents, check: balloons, check: cake, check: workout, CHECK!  My kids usually hit the jungle gym but this time they wanted to skate.  Moms, this is where the workout comes in.

Hold your fifty pound child up while they are learning to skate.  Feel the burn in your arms as you offer constant support for your wobbling child.  Remember to bend at the knees and lift with your legs when picking your child back up on their feet.  By the end of the first lap, your heart rate should be up a little and small beads of sweat may start to form.  It is a lot of work, but then all of the sudden, when you think your arms are going to fall off, they get it.  They are skating and you got a workout.

Now, about that cake...you earned a little slice.  You taught your child something new, spent quality time together, and burned a few calories.
