Unexpected Participants Win the Pit Run
Over 1000 people participated in the 20th anniversary of the Pit Run 10k and 5k Sunday in Oneonta.
The winners of this years 10k were supposed to be competing in a half marathon in Maryland but due to the government shutdown the race was postponed.
Since Haile Mengesha's schedule was now free, showed up in Oneonta and set a course record of 29 minutes and 53 seconds.
Winning the womens race was Meseret Basa in 36 minutes 36 seconds. She was also slated to run In Maryland.
Winning the 5k was Gilbertsville-Mount Upton graduate Nate Lull and on the womens side 14 year old Mary Rommer of Wells Bridge placed first.
