From the very beginning, the Pit Run, held in memory of Ricky J. Parisian, an Oneonta native and New York State Trooper who died while trying to stop an armed robbery at an Oneonta grocery store in 1994, was destined to be a big success and in the hopes to continue that success, organizers of this community event hope that making it virtual will continue that.

Typically, this community event is held on the first Sunday of October but in light of the COVID-19 crisis, it's now gone virtual through October 31st with registration open through Oct. 15 at Pitrun.org. You can participate in a 5k run/walk, a 10k run/walk, a 100k run/walk challenge (new this year), or a Team Challenge. To sign up for a challenge visit runsignup.com/Race/NY/Oneonta/PitRun.

All the money raised from this is given back to the community through a scholarship that is given annually to an Oneonta High School graduating senior, or through many local youth oriented programs that receive money from the Ricky J. Parisian Memorial Scholarship Foundation.
