‘Twin Peaks’ Revival Coming to Showtime in 2016, Seriously
A 'Twin Peaks' revival has been something of a long-running joke since the show's 1991 ABC cancellation, with rumors emerging of a return every so often for the last 25 years, but you may want to put down that damn good coffee. Showtime has officially confirmed that David Lynch will return us to 'Twin Peaks' in 2016 for new episodes, picking up where the cult series last left off in the early '90s.
As had been teased by series creator David Lynch in recent weeks (how were we to know he was serious this time?!), Showtime made the announcement official with a new video promising the inevitable 'Twin Peaks' return. Lynch and co-creator Mark Frost are reportedly working on the scripts, with Lynch likely to direct all 9 episodes of the revival series.
The original 'Twin Peaks' saw Agent Dale Cooper (Kyle MacLachlan) arriving in the titular town to investigate the murder of homecoming queen Laura Palmer, only to find the mystery ran far deeper than he could ever expect, even with a touch of the supernatural. Fans of the series will remember that the season 2 finale left Cooper in some dire straits, while we're told the new episodes would pick up 25 years later to continue the story.
It's a lot to take in for the moment, but what do you make of the news? Could a 'Twin Peaks' revival in 2016 live up to the show's cult status? How do you feel about David Lynch and Mark Frost back at the helm of new episodes of the revered series?
