In going through a bunch of my Dad's old things I came upon several of these old 'license plates."  I vaguely remember them, maybe from the early 1960s. But what are they?  Clearly they are not official license plates, but they obviously were meant to go on an automobile...

I took a ride through my hometown of Sidney, N.Y. yesterday to see how things are coming along at the new Amphenol plant.  Take a look at this video.  It is pretty amazing!

Ground has been broken on a new parcel of land for Sidney's Amphenol manufacturing plant.

A fire in a pole barn Tuesday led to the evacuation of roughly 450 students from Sidney elementary and middle school to the high school gymnasium. School officials say a tractor was destroyed and the barn suffered smoke damage as the cause of the fire may have been the tractors battery but the investigation is ongoing.

The Amphenol Aerospace facility in Sidney, which has suffered tens of millions of dollars in damage since the floods of 2006, is preparing for Hurricane Sandy to impact the area.

On Tuesday, state police in Sidney arrested a John Balckburn, 24, of Oneonta, on a fugitive warrant for the charge of arson, issued by the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.

With the new school year kicking off around the state Wednesday, state police at Sidney are urging everyone to support AAA’s annual “School’s Open Drive Carefully” campaign to preserve the safety of children traveling to and from school.

An arterial route was proposed way back in 1951 and eventually became part of Dwight D. Eisenhower National System of Interstate and Defense Highways in 1956. By 1968, plans were drawn up for the East/West arterial that would become known as I-88. This main thoroughfare, which skirts Oneonta and our listening area, runs from Binghamton to Schenectady, some 117 miles.

According to the City of Norwich Emergency Management Office, the National Weather Service storm survey determined that downburst winds are to blame for the damage in Sidney yesterday, not a tornado as was locally suspected.
