Due to strong demand for tickets to see Dr. Cornel West speak Sept. 4 at SUNY Oneonta, the college announced Thursday that it will move the lecture to 7 p.m. at the Alumni Field House Dewar Arena.

“We’re delighted by the response to this event,” said Senior Assistant to the President Colleen Brannan, who is a member of the organizing committee. “We’re happy to move the event to the Alumni Arena, which is a much larger space than the Hunt Union.”

Brannan added that all previously issued tickets will be honored, and that additional tickets are available at no cost.

“The college is committed to keeping this event free and open to all, and to making tickets available to all who would like to attend Dr. Cornel West’s lecture,” she said.

Dr. West’s appearance is the capstone of the college’s “Beyond the List: A Teach-in: Remembrance and Reconciliation” program, which is a daylong recognition of the 20th anniversary of the Black List.

The Black List was the name given to public outrage that occurred after September 4, 1992, when the college shared information about all of its male African American registrants with the New York State Police, who were seeking suspects as part of a criminal investigation.
