Attorney General Eric T. Schneiderman is in favor of Governor Cuomo’s plan to allow online voter registration in New York State.

This announcement comes in the wake of a decision by Pennsylvania officials to cancel plans to allow online voter registration and online absentee ballot application this year in that state. Schneiderman says online voter registration is a welcome development for all who share the goal of increasing voter participation and that in this election year, too many states are making it more difficult to vote when they should be making it easier.

Schneiderman says his office will be vigilant in protecting the right to vote and aggressive in carrying on the American tradition of tearing down barriers to full voter participation.
