A funeral is scheduled for today for the New York state trooper killed in the line of duty Tuesday.

David Cunniff had pulled over a car on the New York state thruway when a tractor trailer left the highway and hit the back of his patrol car and the vehicle the police officer had stopped. Cunniff was thrown from the car and suffered major head injuries.

The funeral service will be broadcast live. Trooper Cunniff is survived by a wife and two young sons.

The family is asking that memorial contributions be made to Families of Spinal Muscular Atrophy, 925 Busse Rd. Elk Grove Village, IL 60007, www.curesma.org in memory of David W. Cunniff. One of Trooper Cunniff’s life goals and promise to his sons, was a treatment and cure for SMA.
