SUNY Oneonta's "Canstruction" event takes place every year at the Southside Mall to shine the light on food insecurity in our local community and gather non-perishable food to be donated to local food pantries but because of coronavirus concerns, it will not be held this year. However, the mission to help local families in need continues.

Although students cannot gather to build a "Canstruction" of donated food this year because of the pandemic, the campus community is continuing with the spirit of the event and gathering much-needed food to local pantries. They could use your help.

You can donate non-perishable food items that will serve those in our local area by dropping off items to 127 Hunt Union on the SUNY Oneonta campus by April 16. Contact Linda Drake for more information at 607-436-2633 or email linda.drake@oneonta.edu.

According to SUNY Oneonta Center for Social Responsibility and Community, the local Canstruction event has donated over 37,000 pound of food to date. Linda Drake, executive director of the center says, "We know our efforts are helping those local folks who need some extra food to make ends meet, and the need is more than ever before."
