As Major League Baseball continues to struggle to get its season underway the NHL continues to move ahead to resume play after it was suspended in mid-March.  There are many aspects to still work out including sites for games.  According to ESPN and other media reports the players union and the league have settled on a 24-team playoff format.  There will be a best-of-five qualifying round with the higher seed in each series  holding the game-five home advantage.

There will be two hub cities where teams play with no fans permitted.  One possibility that has surfaced is Las Vegas.  Another is expected to be a Canadian city.  One issue with teams playing in Canada is that anyone coming into Canada from outside the country has a mandatory 14-day quarantine period.  Players have scattered all over the world so there will need to be some big lead time prior to actual scrimmages and game competition.

Surviviors of the qualifying round will advance to four best-of-seven playoff rounds with the higher seed earning the home edge for the seventh game in the series.  Observers expect an announcement of where the Hub Cities will be by next weekend.

Along with specific guidelines drawn up by the NHL and the NHL Player's Association players and team personnel will also have to adhere to all state and local government regulations.  A major difficulty will be getting the athletes who have left the Uhttps://wnbf.com/nhl-continues-preparations-to-get-back-on-the-ice/SA or Canada for other foreign countries and have to have time to leave their current location.
