Man Charged in Franklin Head-On Collision
Delaware County Sheriff Craig DuMond announced that a Walton man is facing charges following a head-on collision on County Highway 21 in the Town of Franklin last Wednesday.
Last Week's Investigation by Deputies determined that 50 year-old Jeffrey Lewis of Walton was driving in a southerly direction when his vehicle crossed over the center line on County Highway 21 and collided with a northbound vehicle being driven by 62 year-old Wayne Knorr of Laurens causing Knorr's vehicle to overturn several times. Knorr was transported to Fox Hospital in Oneonta for treatment of a head injury. Lewis went to Delaware Valley Hospital in Walton for treatment of a possible head injury.
Further investigation by Deputies determined that Lewis’ driving privileges were revoked as a result of previous alcohol related offense. Lewis was subsequently charged with aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle in the second degree, operation of a motor vehicle without an ignition interlock device, failure to keep right and unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle. Due to New York Bail Reform, Lewis was issued traffic summonses and was directed to appear in the Town of Franklin Court on a later date to answer the charges. Deputies say alcohol was not a contributing factor in this accident.
