On this day, March 27, 2008 Leona Lewis, became the first British female artist to score a number one pop hit in the United States in over twenty years. Her single "Bleeding Love" soared to the top of the charts making this 2006 X Factor winner a worldwide superstar. The last female British artist to score a number one hit in the U.S. was Kim Wilde in 1987 with "Keep Me Hanging On", a cover of a Supremes song.
