Jets Make First Big Move Of Free Agency By Adding Corey Davis

The New York Jets have no shortage of needs this offseason but maybe one of those needs just got filled in free agency. The Jets have agreed to a three-year $37.5 million deal with former Tennessee Titans wide receiver Corey Davis. This has the potential to be a big get for the Jets.

Corey Davis was the 5th overall pick of the 2017 NFL Draft out of Western Michigan for the Tennessee Titans. In his four years with the Titans Davis caught passes from Marcus Mariotta, Matt Cassel, Blaine Gabbert, and Ryan Tannehill. Not a hall of fame group of QB's by any stretch of the imagination. Add in the fact that Davis is also coming off of his best season as a pro where in 14 games he caught 65 passes for 984 yards and 5 touchdowns and this might be big.

Corey Davis and Denzel Mims would be a solid one-two punch at wideout. Obviously, this all means nothing if they mishandle the QB situation but Corey Davis adds a legit target to the offense who's only 26. Right now that wide receiver room would also include Josh Doctson, Jamison Crowder, and Breshad Perriman. Just adding Davis to the list makes me feel way better about the Jets options at receiver.

One reason I like the addition of Davis goes beyond his actual on-field potential. I can't help but continue to draw hope for Sam Darnold from the way Ryan Tannehill improved after getting away from Adam Gase. I've never been a huge Tannehill guy but if he could become a legit NFL starter after being in Adam Gase jail then why can't Darnold. Davis was there for the Ryan Tannehill revival maybe just maybe he can be there for Darnold's turn. OR he could be one of the first weapons for Zach Wilson. Either is fine with me.
