Over the past weekend, the Southern Tier of New York and Northeastern Pennsylvania experienced a snowstorm that had not been seen in a few years.

Helping keep residents safe during winter events such as the weekend snowstorm includes local law enforcement, fire departments, emergency responders, tow operators,  NYS DOT staff, 911 dispatch center personnel, and all those involved in the medical field, to name a few. Their dedication to our community safety really shines at times like these.

New York State Police Respond During the Winter Storm

During the recent storm, New York State Troop C Officers kept busy as they responded to 76 weather-related events on January 26th and 27th, 2026. Fortunately, there were no reports of fatalities.

There are three zones that NYS Troop C covers. Zone 1 counties include Chenango, Delaware, and Otsego. Zone 2 is solely Broome County, and Zone 3 consists of  Cortland, Tioga, and Tompkins counties.

Winterstorm Assistance By Zone

According to Troop C of the New York State Police, this is the winter snowstorm breakdown:

Zone 1

  • Property Damage (damage to vehicles only)  – 5
  • Personal Injury – 1
  • Disabled Vehicles (no injury or damage to property) - 14
  • Fatal accidents - 0

Zone 2

  • Property Damage Accident (damage to vehicles only) - 13
  • Personal Injury Accidents - 2
  • Disabled Vehicles (no injury or damage to property) - 9
  • Fatal accidents - 0

Zone 3

  • Property Damage Accidents (damage to vehicles only) - 19
  • Personal Injury Accidents - 4
  • Disabled Vehicles (no injury or damage to property) - 9
  • Fatal accidents - 0
