Thrilling Civil War Battles To Be Reenacted In Delhi, NY

Get ready to witness a rare occurrence - a civil war mustering of soldiers played by reenactors who will recreate different battles that took place during the civil war. Members of the 144th Regiment which formed in 1862 and was made up of a group of mostly Delaware County residents, was stationed in different places during the war.

The Delaware County Historical Association (DCHA) is sponsoring two days of reenactment action, "Clash in the Catskills" on the grounds of DCHA this Saturday and Sunday (June 25, 26) from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm. Over the course of this two-day event, you can see and stroll through an authentic example of a regiment camp, witness a civil war surgeon's demonstration, listen to talks about what it was like on a battlefield and what took place at the Spangler Farm Hospital in Gettysburg, see demonstrations of artillery and the cavalry, and see three different civil war battles reenacted. In addition, there will be kids' activities.

Although the battles reenacted seem very real with cannons being blasted and muskets being fired, there are no live rounds fired and there will be no displays of "blood" during the battle scenes. Men will fall down, acting like they've been shot but that is all. Parents should decide if their children are ok being around the loud noises of the cannons and guns, along with the suggestion of violence displayed during battle scenes.

If you love seeing living history, then this event is a great one to check out on the grounds of DCHA for this weekend. There will be lunch available for purchase on both days. The admission charge for this event is $10 for adults, $5.00 for Military members (retired or active), and children 12 and under get in free.
