Yesterday we celebrated Columbus Day.  Schools and banks were closed but it wasn't a party for everybody.  Many people feel that the name of the holiday should be changed.  Native Americans were already in America when Christopher Columbus "discovered" it so really he made the rest of the world aware of the Americas.  Others feel it should be a day to recognize Italian Americans.

It is being proposed to change the name of Columbus Day to Exploration Day.  This would be a day to recognize all great explorers such as Neil Armstrong, Lewis and Clark, and any explorer that made an impact.  What do you think?

I think the day has clear historical significance.  It brings up debatable discussion  and makes people aware of different countries' histories.  I have a feeling it will remain Columbus Day on the calendar.
