Bring Holiday Cheer: Oneonta Salvation Army 2021 Toy Donations Due By December 10
The Oneonta Salvation Army is asking for your help to bring holiday cheer to local children in need this December. Our local Salvation Army couldn't bring toys and needed food to area families without donations from the community and there are some different ways to help.
You can donate money at a red kettle while you're out shopping this holiday season. The money is helpful to the Salvation Army and their mission to help local families since they can fill in gaps where they exist with monetary donations. Also, if you would like to be a bellringer, the Salvation Army is hiring and taking volunteers. Call 607-432-5960 to inquire.
You can also pick an angel off of an Angel Tree. There are a couple of trees at the Oneonta Walmart, also at Hannaford, BJ's Wholesale Club, The Southside Mall, SFCU, NBT Bank, and Community Bank on Main St. Each tag features the wish list of a child. After shopping for that child, you drop off items at the Salvation Army on River St. by December 10. If you have any questions about the Angel Trees please call 607-432-5960.
The Oneonta Salvation Army also provides local families in need food baskets to help families during the holiday school vacation when they need more food as children are home from school. Please donate non-perishable (no glass containers) items that would be great for a holiday meal and you can include some staple items like canned vegetables, instant potatoes, boxes of macaroni and cheese, pasta, etc. According to Captain Selah Bender, last year, the Oneonta Salvation Army served 220 families and there may be more of a demand this year.
If you have any questions, please call 607-432-5960.
