Two graduating seniors from Cooperstown High School are the first recipients of two new scholarships awarded by the Charles H. Bassett Youth Foundation.

Abigail Brown is the recipient of the Mary Augusta and Wilson T. Bassett Scholarship, and Caley Sky-Shrewsberry is the recipient of the Elizabeth and Benjamin Bassett Scholarship.

The two scholarships honor three generations of Bassett families, including Mary Imogene Bassett, for whom the Mary Imogene Bassett Hospital was built and named in the 1920’s.

These scholarships are for graduating seniors at Cooperstown High School in memory and honor of Mary Imogene Bassett's mother and father, Mary Augusta and Wilson T. Bassett, and her grandparents, Elizabeth and Benjamin Bassett.

The criteria for the scholarships focus on the importance of education, opportunity, venturing out in the world, overcoming obstacles, and expressing selfless care and concern for others.
