New York State Association of Agriculture Fairs (NYSAAF) met over this past weekend to gear up for the 2013 fair season.  It was the group's 125th meeting.  Board members of the State's County fairs shared ideas, booked entertainment, attended workshops, and participated in a number of events to prepare for the upcoming season.  I was honored to be a part of the festivities this year with the Otsego County Fair.  I never hesitate to say,  "I'm proud to be a farm kid!"  Exhibiting animals at the county fair was my favorite part of summer and still is.  My family is in it's four generation of showing.  Pictured below is my niece, Karley and family friend, Jasmine.

The midway is great, the food is delicious, the entertainment rocks, but agriculture is the true backbone of the county fair.  I was reminded of a major component of the county fairs over the weekend...volunteers.  The board of directors that meet all year and work around the clock before, during, and after the fair, are all volunteers.

Looking forward to the 2013 New State County Fairs and of course my favorite, the Otsego County Fair in Morris, New York.
