William Rapfogel, Ex-Met Council Chief, Charged with Felonies
The State Attorney’s Office announced Tuesday the arrest of William Rapfogel, former executive director and CEO of the Metropolitan Council on Jewish Poverty, on felony charges of grand larceny, money laundering, criminal tax fraud, conspiracy and other charges.
Rapfogel is accused of conspiring with others to inflate the rate of insurance policies paid by the Met Council, and pocketing the difference in cost.
More than $5 million was stolen from the organization over a period of about 20 years. To date, Rapfogel allegedly pocketed about $1 million for himself and shared the rest with his co-conspirators.
The investigation is being conducted in conjunction with State Comptroller Thomas DiNapoli.
