Do remember republican presidential hopeful, Bob Dole's, campaign song?  His team changed the words to "Soul Man" to "Dole Man".  Rondor Music International, the song's publisher, was not happy and on this date September 10, 1996 sent a letter to campaign officials to ask the use of the song be discontinued.  Copyright right laws were violated when Dole's campaign changed the words to the song without permission.

The song, written by David Porter and Isaac Hayes, was first recorded by the soul duo 'Sam and Dave' in 1967.  It was another duo though that created such a stir.  Jake and Elwood, the Blues Brothers played by John Belushi and Dan Aykroyd.  The song was performed in late November, 1978 on NBC's  'Saturday Night Live' then later released as a single and became a top twenty hit in March,1979.
