Traffic Study of State Route 8 Has Begun
State Senator James Seward announced Friday that the State Department of Transportation has begun a full study of traffic issues along State Route 8 in Chenango County approaching the Chobani plant.
Seward recently asked Department of Transportation (DOT) Commissioner Joan McDonald for a full study to review traffic patterns in the area approaching Chobani and to develop a response plan to make improvements in several areas of Route 8 that experience a greater number of of truck and other accidents.
The New York State (DOT) has already taken some actions, including better warning signage along several curves and intersections, improving a guide rail damaged in an accident, and installing center-line rumble strips in several segments of the road per contract. Senator Seward says he is confident that the study will result in a safer stretch of State Route 8.
