In 1986, one of the hottest movies was "Top Gun", featuring Tom Cruise, Kelly McGillis, Meg Ryan, Val Kilmer, and Anthony Edwards.  Maverick, Iceman, and Goose compete to be the best in the Navy's elite fighter weapons school.  Just as the movie blew up the ticket booths, the soundtrack blew up the charts.

On this day, September 13, 1986, Berlin climbed to the number spot on the U.S. singles chart with their single, "Take My Breath Away" from the "Top Gun" soundtrack.  On the B side of the single was the Righteous Brothers single, "You've Lost That Loving" which regained success since it's 1964 release.  A number of other hits including Loverboy's "Heaven In Your Eyes" and Kenny Loggin's "Playing With The Boys" and "Danger Zone", were also on the soundtrack.
