Celebrate Fall With This Sweet Pumpkin Patch Train Ride in Cooperstown
Located just an hour and a half from Binghamton down Interstate 88, Cooperstown is a gem of a town filled with quaint shops, the famous Baseball Hall of Fame, and a fantastic little railroad called the Cooperstown and Charlotte Valley Railroad.
The history of the Cooperstown and Charlotte Valley Railroad goes back to 1888 when Articles of Association were filed for the Cooperstown and Charlotte Valley R.R. Co. Work began on constructing the railroad in 1888. By 1934, the New York State Public Service Commission discontinued passenger service on the Cooperstown and Charlotte Valley Railroad.
Fast forward to 1999 and the Cooperstown and Charlotte Valley Railroad was brought back to life thanks to volunteers who rehabbed the tracks and removed overgrown vegetation in order to reopen the tracks seasonally for passengers to travel between Cooperstown and Milford.
The Leatherstocking Railway Historical Society operates the Cooperstown and Charlotte Valley Railroad and does so through donations and themed train rides. Themed train rides include Train Robberies, and Santa Claus Express, Fall Foliage Excursion, and even a North Pole Express but perhaps one of the most fun themed train ride is the Pumpkin Patch Express.
My family hopped aboard the Pumpkin Patch Express several years ago when my son was just a baby and we had a fantastic time. Not only did we get to take in stunning scenery but the two hour round trip included songs, games, and even a pumpkin for each kid.
Rides aboard the Cooperstown and Charlotte Valley Railroad for the Pumpkin Express depart at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday, October 23 and 24. Admission rates apply and tickets can be purchased here.
