Baseball fans in the Binghamton area we're excited for this year's Binghamton Rumble Ponies season. Not just because it's been a long off-season, but also because this year the Binghamton Rumble Ponies were chosen to host the 2020 Eastern League All-Star Game.

The best players in the eastern league were scheduled to descend on Binghamton Wednesday July 15th with the Home Run Derby taking place on Tuesday July 14th. But like so many other sporting events, the game has been canceled as an effect of the Covid-19 virus.

With the season being postponed due to the Coronavirus outbreak, The MiLB decided to eliminate the annual event.

In a press release sent out by the Binghamton Rumble Ponies, team President John Hughes was quoted as saying

This is a very unfortunate casualty of the COVID-19 virus. I know how much went into this from our community. The fans, the elected officials, and the team went all in to put our best foot forward. We are now shifting our focus to providing an incredibly action packed schedule into a condensed season. I remain committed to providing a safe and memorable experience for this community and look forward to our 2020 Opening day.

If you had tickets for the Eastern League All-Star Game and/or the Home Run Derby, you can exchange those tickets for two regular season baseball games Once the stadium reopens.

Not only is the cancellation heartbreaking for Baseball fans here in Binghamton, but also for business owners as well. Hotels, restaurants, and other local businesses would have benefited greatly from having the All-Star game played here in Binghamton.
