Two weeks after a Seattle radio station claimed it had an exclusive on the new Strokes single and a week after news surfaced about plans for a new album, a song bound for the as-yet-untitled disc has surfaced in our inbox.

They've stayed pretty tight-lipped about it until now, but it looks like the Strokes are gearing up to release a new album later this year.

Are you ready for some new Strokes? Seattle radio station 107.7 The End has announced it has a promo copy of the first new single from the Strokes since their last album, 'Angles,' dropped in 2011, and they're teasing listeners with the notion they could play the tune at any minute.

The song that launched one of the most storied careers in rock music, Tom Petty‘s ‘American Girl,’ boasts an immediately recognizable chord progression that’s been a mainstay on AOR stations for 35 years and counting — and apparently a favorite for Strokes frontman Julian Casablancas, too.
