This Friday, July 19, 2013 is the start of the 17th Annual Chenango County Relay For Life.  The event runs through Saturday, July 20, 2013 at the Chenango County Fairgrounds in Norwich, New York.  I am pleased to be a part of the festivities as teams walk to celebrate the lives of loved ones who have battled cancer, remember those who were taken too soon and raise money to find a cure for cancer.

The state's five-year plan for fighting cancer targets smoking, poor nutrition and obesity to limit the disease that is now diagnosed in more than 100,000 New Yorkers annually while killing about 35,000. Noting the nearly 1 million cancer survivors among the state's 19 million people, the plan also calls for tracking their quality-of-life outcomes and ensuring appropriate follow-up care, including
