As part of an effort to make sure New York residents are getting the full benefit from their donations to charitable organizations, Attorney General Eric Schneiderman released his preliminary report Wednesday in to how charitable organizations have spent more than half a billion dollars raised in the weeks and months after super-storm Sandy.

According to data provided by 89 charitable organizations that raised funds after the storm, at least $238 million of the more than $575 million raised in the aftermath of Sandy had not been spent as of April 2013.

In response to concerns identified in the report, the attorney general’s charities bureau will review fundraising and relief activities of charities on a heightened level. Asking for more detailed answers, and a clearer accounting of what the money was spent on, and plans for remaining funds
