The Otsego County Department of Health reports a bat found in Hartwick on Tuesday tested positive for rabies Tuesday. Fortunately, there no people were exposed to it but an unvaccinated cat was and now must be quarantined for 6 months.

Under New York State law, all domesticated dogs, cats and ferrets need to be up-to-date with rabies vaccinations. The Otsego County Department of Health in cooperation with the Susquehanna SPCA, offers free rabies vaccine clinics every Wednesday and Thursday at the shelter by appointment only on a first come, first served basis.
