In their ongoing search for new voices to expand the world of Star Wars (and maybe Indiana Jones too) the folks at Lucasfilm have been bringing in various writers and filmmakers to pitch ideas for new shows and films. In an interview with Movieweb, two of those writers, Scott Beck and Bryan Woods revealed they had one of these meetings, where they discussed their own ideas for these two beloved franchises.

According to Woods, they had a very specific view of what they would want to do with both concepts:

We went into Lucasfilm in the wake of A Quiet Place and they wanted to talk to us about Indiana Jones and Star Wars. And we're like, ‘We wanna talk to you about, what is Star Wars before it was Star Wars?' You guys have a responsibility to start a new franchise. That's where our hearts have always been, just trying to create original ideas.’

Although they were understandably hesitant to go into specifics, Beck did say this was “open canvas talk” and that they ultimately did either one it would be about “what’s that chapter of the whole universe that we would want to see?” Beck did say, though, that it’s not in their “DNA” to make franchise movies and that they would rather “create what the next Indiana Jones could be."

So look out for Illinois Mason, from the writers of A Quiet Place, coming to theaters in the summer 2022! Meanwhile, The Quiet Place sequel (which Woods and Beck did not write) opens in theaters on March 20, 2020.
