In "the old days" every small town used to have their own little banks serving the needs of their communities.  Mortgages, personal loans, business start up, disaster relief.  The First National Bank of ??? was always there to help out.

One of the hottest collectibles today is currency printed with the names of the little rural banks that had these unique institutions.  I have found a small sample from banks in our area.

They are beautiful, nostalgic, unusual and valuable.  These, for example, sell routinely for between $600-$1,000 each. Notice that they are usually signed by prominent citizens  (usually bankers) from the community.  You will recognize the name "Frank Bresee" on the Oneonta currency.
