President Barack Obama gave a heartfelt and pointed speech at Newtown High School late Sunday evening in the wake of the shootings that took place at Sandy Hook Elementary School.

The 18-minute speech was consoling, but not without hinting at an agenda. In it, the president again urged citizens to back representatives who want to start a conversation to prevent these tragedies from happening in the future. While he did not specifically mention gun control, it was one of the themes of his address.

He ended the speech by reading the names of the 20 children whose lives were lost on Friday. Before leaving the podium, he also said: "Let us make this country worthy of their memory."
