Otsego County Residents, Get Your Free Radon Test Kit
147025975
The Otsego County Department of Health is making home radon gas testing kits available to county residents at no charge. Radon Gas is a naturally-occurring radioactive gas that is inert, colorless and odorless. It is the #2 cause of lung cancer in the United States.
According to the Environmental Protection Agency, the maximum “acceptable” level of radon is 4.0 pCi/L, but even that level is not “safe”, per se. The EPA strongly recommends you consider radon mitigation between levels 2.0 and 4.0. For perspective, the average outdoor air level of radon is 0.4 pCi/L.
To apply for a kit call 607-547-4230 or log on to otsegocounty.com. Once the application is returned a kit will be mailed out along with instructions.
